the slow drift (episode 034)

Every now and then I really get the bug to host something that just completely wraps me up in a cocoon created of sound, light, and depth. Without fail once again, I have to give a huge tip of the hat to Mr. Andrew Hoffman at THE SLOW DRIFT for having the delicate touch to create such an ethereal and melancholic journey into the sublime. I really can't put my finger on it, but the color and beauty in EPISODE 034 moves me in a way that a few rare mixes do. Something about the way the entire piece flows feels like a very subtle trickle that forms an ocean, all without effort or worry.

To me, Andrew defines and refines ambient radio. Taking in Andrew's mixes drive home the fact that he absolutely loves what he's surrounded by, and can find such beautiful pieces to weave into heartfelt epics. Take in more from Andrew through his MIXCLOUD page, or on THE SLOW DRIFT website. You can also stream Andrew's broadcast on Tuesdays (guest what day it is for me?) from 11:00-12:00 P.M. EST from the WRFI.ORG website. Thanks for turning colors into portraits of sound, Andrew! Turn on, tune in, sleep...

andrew hoffman with the slow drift

As a regular listener and supporter of ANDREW HOFFMAN'S THE SLOW DRIFT broadcast, I get a good fill of weekly mental overhauls. Like many of my favorite mix artists, Andrew consistently amazes me with his musical selections and his flawless transitions. I have to say, most everything that I hear coming from Andrew is new to me, and sends me on a search for the artists' other works that are represented. His latest mix, entitled simply EPISODE 023 (THE WINTER MIX) is the perfect companion for the snowy winter that we've been having here in the Northeastern US states at this time.

radio spot with the slow drift

Really happy to have the golden opportunity for one of my mixes to be broadcast over the airwaves. On Friday (November 22, 2013), THE SLOW DRIFT, which streams a show on the listener supported station WRFI.ORG, is hosting my brand new mix (entitled (Slowly Drifing) Light Years Away) at 7:00 EST! Really stoked!! Super special thanks to Andrew Hoffman who is the gracious host that granted me this amazing opportunity. I will be posting the non-edited for radio version here on Spaceman's Transmissions on Friday, and the radio version will be available on The Slow Drift website.

All prior broadcasts are available on The Slow Drift website (listed above), and can also be streamed from Andrew's MIXCLOUD PAGE. Make sure that you tune in each and every episode, Andrew has one of the best features supporting ambient artists and his show is the best hour of anyone's week. Peace.

Turn on, definitely tune in (to WRFI!), sleep...

the slow drift radio broadcast

This is not a personal mix, or even a guest mix, but rather a bit of praise to an amazing resource that I've found (via Mixcloud) of new ambient music. The Slow Drift not only has a MIXCLOUD page, but a WEBSITE as well where the mixes can be downloaded, and the mixes are just great.

I've gone through 3 episodes (so far) at work today, and I'm really happy with what I've heard. There are quite a bit of ranges of color, and I'm gladly taking them all in. I like the fact that even the downloadable mixes feel a bit nostalgic like radio (in a good way, no advertising!) with Andrew giving us a bit of insight to the presented songs. Very nice. I'm looking forward to catching my first broadcast tonight!

You can hear The Slow Drift's broadcasts on Friday nights from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time in the US) on WRFI Community Radio (88.1 FM in Ithaca, NY or 91.9 in Watkins Glen, NY). Better yet, you can stream live from WRFI.org and take in fresh new sounds of ambient (I've heard all brand new stuff so far, pretty stoked about it!).

Be sure to pay Andrew a visit and tune in, turn on, sleep. Peace.
