We are in turbulent times with so many uncertainties and situations that are causing anguish and unrest around the world. If you're like me, you tend to worry about people in general, and hearing of such misfortune that people are facing, it tends to weigh heavy on my mind. My escape has always been (and will always be) losing myself temporarily in music. If there's any sort of consolation that I can offer, it would be what I produce in some manner for the masses. As much as I enjoy doing podcast episodes (because I really do!), I also enjoy writing and recording music. Today is my birthday, and I'm gifting everyone my latest release. As I sit here in a somewhat solitary situation, it warms my heart to be able to have the opportunity to share something that will hopefully help you mentally rise above the problems that currently exist for you. I ask nothing of it, and my only reward is knowing that I somehow gave you some sort of solace, peace, and comfort.
Greetings, dear wanderers in light and sound. I have been busy this year with trying to write new music, and I'm here with yet another release that I'm happy to share with you. I was approached by a gentleman named Grael who asked if he could use some of my music for a documentary on skateboarding. As skateboarding is near and dear to my heart (it really is), I gladly obliged. While I initially only offered some of my pre-released stuff, I took on the task of creating some new music. Not everything was going to be used for the film, but I decided that whatever I did write during this period would be put on this release. So there you have it.
Hello, everyone. I've just curated a collection of my favorite tracks (51 of them) along with 2 unreleased tracks. The release is free of charge, no need to pay a dime! I more or less just want to have a representation of my creations within one single compilation. Excepting those 2 new songs, everything is from prior releases. I'm in the works of finishing up a brand new release and am in the final stages of it.
It's been a minute since I've had the chance to do very much of anything (making mixes), as I've been busy writing and recording. My latest release has posted, and I'm ecstatic! This took a few months of recording in hotel rooms and my bedroom (where I've managed to carve out my own creative space). I wanted to make sure that this release was above and beyond what I've done so far, and in doing so, I'm paying tribute to the pioneers of space music with this celestial driven venture.

I'm continuously inspired and in awe of the amazing vibes that live and breathe on Bandcamp, searching for a home within our minds and ears. With a small bit of searching, one can reap the benefits of the artistic fruits that creative artists have toiled over, with hopes that their creations will find a new world to take root in and germinate within us. I'm VERY happy today that I have (finally) completed a project that has taken me a year. It has a been a very difficult year trying to make the time to get ideas down, compositions written, and all of the technical details ironed out. Perseverance has fortunately paid off and I can finally deliver the strongest music that I've been able to write in the time that I've been doing this.
This is a pay-what-you-want release. If you feel like paying, beautiful. If not, also beautiful. Even if you pay the bare minimum you will get a PDF booklet with explanations of every variation of artwork that I had considered as front covers for this release. You also get all of the artwork. It's not often enough that I get the chance to put my thoughts down on releases of independent artists that are relatively new to putting out music and don't have the benefits of great promotion. So it warms my heart when I actually find a very strong outing that might seemingly go unnoticed and be able to use the music in a session in hopes that it will put the artist's names out there for others to discover. CLOUDFALL is one such discovery for me. Oftentimes, I'll go on Bandcamp in search of what I can get for free so that I can sprinkle future mixes with unknown artists that happened to surface (and not end up broke from it!). I came across Cloudfall's release DAYS OF WIND, and can't sing enough praises about it. With new artists, it happens that one song stands out and the rest is filler. This is not the case with Cloudfall. I've managed to use (quite effortlessly) quite a few colors in the last three mixes (WHEN NIGHT MEETS LIGHT, MUSIC FOR STARGAZING, and ODE TO THE COSMIC VOYAGER). I got a chance to communicate with Cloudfall, and his means for creating his sonic ventures, while simple in design, are complex in delivery. This unassumingly astonishing release delivers a mountain of emotive sound that is wrapped in an honesty and intensity.
Hey there. I've put together a new release witha little bit of help from the unbelievable composer WINGS OF AN ANGEL (whose release OUR FORGOTTEN INFINITY AND THE ABSOLUTE ZERO will without a doubt go down as my favorite release of 2015). I've been working on this for a while, and after some great communication exchanges with WOaA, we decided to merge our collective thinking into an 18-song album coming in at almost 2 hours of music. I can't express the elation and satisfaction that I am experiencing in being able to present this to the world. Every soundscape and ethereal tapestry is covered in this release, and its sonic presentation will please every listener.

It's extremely rare when a debut release from a new artist demands so much attention as this one from ABSTRACT APRILS. It would be an amazing aural feat if there were just a few strong songs on BLOSSOM ENDS. However, Blossom Ends is very, very strong from start to finish.
Rather than to sitting on drones, hoping for an interesting electronic effect to develop into a theme, we are greeted on the first song with a deep and moving chordal symphony that whispers and moves along. With this protocol of harmonic engagement in place, the album begins its journey into the subconscious realm that breeds positive vibe and flow. Every single song is a deeper dive into harmonic development, rich in organic sounds and carefully developed dynamic themes. If there were one release that makes me hold my breath at times as to not disturb the transitions that shift throughout, this would be it. Blossom Ends is a very careful journey that tips its hat to influences such as Sigur Ros and Hammock, but with an absolute life of its own, capable of creating an identity that rises above its influences.
Finally got this all mixed (to the best of my ability, not sure if that says much) and put out the door. I've been working on this for months, no kidding. I've learned a lot about the entire recording process (always do), and about organizing myself (biggest nightmare ever). Anyhow, to everyone, here is my gift to you. There is over an hour's worth of music on this, and I was very meticulous in creating the right sounds, getting everything to line up really nice, and having a very large diverse bit of music to satisfy every type of ambient music lover. I did post this up on Soundcloud a while back, but the songs have evolved quite a bit since then and have had much better treatment.
Just did a collaborative EP with 2 other musicians (Javier Bilbao and Jon Wheeler aka PETAL) in a group effort entitled RUSTED SUN COLLECTIVE. We call the release 'Communicate'. With the download comes all the artwork that tags the files (each song has a different set of artwork tagged to it). We were blessed by CARAS IONUT to be allowed to tag our song 'For The Father We Never Found' with his artwork entitled 'Fresh Air' (many, MANY thanks to him for that!). I have received an incredibly amazing mix-gift from an artist known as HALFTRIBE. This will blow your mind in a very non-abrasive and tranquil sort of way. I'm really lucky to have been contacted by Halftribe (aka Ryan Bissett) asking to host a mix. Normally, I contact the DJ and am (luckily) always given a green light to host the mixes. I have to say, I was really happy to have received contact from Ryan to host this mix. It's not often that I get goosebumps from being taken in by such intense sets, but this one is one of the rare ones that did the trick. Halftribe has been very busy, creating amazing mixes as well as churning out some original music (links for everything are below).
Halftribe got into electronic music long ago through way of New Order (1986 on CD and Technique on Vinyl), which opened a gateway to the rave scene in the UK during the late 80's and early 90's. It was at these raves that Halftribe gotten taken in by the post rave chill music, and his fascination for ambient music sparked an interest in exploring its history. As with many frustrated creative artists with an ear for music but without means to create, that path seemed to be expensive and inaccessible. When DAW's became available, Halftribe finally had the opportunity to begin producing deep house, techno, and (mainly) ambient and downtempo. He has released on VENT SOUNDS, ATRIUM DIGITAL, and ASSEMBLY FIELD. When not creating original compositions, he spends his time remixing and has been fortunate, through his links within the industry, to be asked to do a remix for Karl Hyde from UNDERWORLD for his solo album (as well as commissioned for other remix work).
I've been into the BANDCAMP site for a relatively short while now, and I have to give the site a lot of credit if helping me find some great independent artists. Bandcamp is very instrumental in giving these artists a place to market their original music, and this has become a very valuable asset to those that praise independent musicians (that's me!). The creation of the DIY musician as producer/label/market is a product borne of the music industry's greed, and that benefits us in that we are awarded creations that the music industry would rather ignore. Their loss, our gain......
I've created this amalgamation from artists' music who I've gotten from Bandcamp (one caveat; the Phillip Wilkerson tune I got from Earth Mantra, but I absolutely love the tune and decided to slip it in this mix! I own quite a few from Phillip both by way of Bandcamp as well as Earth Mantra), and their sounds speak loud volumes. This is no means a complete list, just a current list of what I've found so far that has appealed to me. Trust me, I have not even heard a fraction of the unreal music that can be found there. It's quite the event to check back often and see beautiful sounds piling up in the queue. There are certain things that stick out for some reason to me and that comprises what's here. This mix, to me, was one of my favorites to make, as I'm standing on the shoulders of those who have created some masterpieces that really move me. Truly inspiring.
I've recently found an amazing new release on Bandcamp that warrants an intensive listening. '=' by YLOWKNFE is to me, a breath of fresh air among all of the things that I've been watching come through the new ambient artist queue on Bandcamp, and the moment I heard the first song I was completely drawn in by rich harmonic soundscapes. According to Ylownkfe, his interest lies in creating music for films and documentaries and these releases serve as a springboard to this venture at some point. The problem all of this is that, with music this good, I would even forget to concentrate on the film and use more of my brain power to take in this incredible music.
I try to keep my ear to the wire and check out new artists from Bandcamp, and a lot stuff I review a lot before I even think about making a purchase (more often than not, I prefer the cheap route!). I just recently had the opportunity of discovering a new artist whose music I've used on the last mix ([SLOWLY DRIFTING] LIGHT YEARS AWAY) named BUBBLE. Bubble is capable of weaving a sonic tapestry that encompasses the universe, bringing in dark moments to the light and casting shadows on the heat. With his minimal approach, he is nonetheless able to cover a lot of ground. Like most of the ambient that really draws me in, one easily takes in a lot of depth from heady but soothing harmonic passages. Simply put, this is a thinking man's (or woman's) ambient.
Yo! I've finally put something out under the 'tonepoet' name (as opposed to infinite_coil) on Bandcamp entitled 'SO GENTLY WE GO'. I'm really pleased by the outcome of this, and actually had some mastering done on it. If you have a chance, please check it out and give me some feedback!
I've just released some new stuff that I had recorded a while back and decided to give away under the INFINITE_COIL name, natch (note: this will now lead to my new artist site as I'm now going under the name 'Tonepoet'). With summer here, it's really difficult to lay things down when there's so much fun stuff to do outside (fly kites, ride bikes, play baseball, and so on...).
